maps and driving information CMT is located on The University of British Columbia campus, on the Point Grey pennisula of Vancouver.
Approaching from Seattle Take I-5 north toward Vancouver. There are several border crossings you may choose to use, the two most popular of which are the Peace Arch crossing (right on I-5), and the Pacific Highway crossing (aka the "Truck Crossing" since it is the commerical point of entry from Washington State). Either choice is a good choice, depending on the border delays. You can check on the delays at http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html. After crossing the border, continue north along Highway 99. After some 15 minutes, you will pass through the Massey Tunnel. Depending on the time of day, there will be anywhere from one to three lanes of traffic open northbound. In the case of only one northbound lane open, expect to see oncoming traffic in the "counterflow" lane of the tunnel. Continue north along Highway 99 through Richmond, crossing over the Oak Street Bridge. At this point, the highway blends into a typical Vancouver street, Oak Street. Continue north along Oak St. until 41st Avenue. Note that when you cross into Vancouver, the first intersection you pass through is 70th Avenue, and each block counts down as you proceed north. Turn left on to 41st Avenue. Continue along 41st Ave until it merges with Southwest Marine Drive. Continue west along Southwest Marine Drive. Eventually Southwest Marine Drive becomes a highway as it leads out to the University. Soon, you will see an exit to 16th Avenue on the right-hand side. Take this exit. Take the left-hand lane and make the first left, on to East Mall. Continue along East Mall to find parking (see the UBC map, below). From Vancouver International Airport Exit from the terminals. Continue along the road out of the airport towards Vancouver. As you cross the Arthur Laing Bridge, change to the right-hand lane and take the right-hand exit off the bridge, the Granville Street exit. Stay in the left-hand lane as you exit the ramp from the bridge, and turn left on to 70th Avenue (the third stop light). Continue along 70th Avenue and it will become Southwest Marine Drive. From Alberta/ BC Interior Approach Vancouver on Highway 1 (the Trans-Canada Highway). After passing through New Westminster and Burnaby, take the Grandview Highway exit. (You're close to the Grandview Highway exit after you pass the exit to Simon Fraser Univerity -- Gaglardi Way --, then the Willingdon exit is next, and then the Grandview Highway exit. Don't miss it, the next exit puts you in downtown Vancouver.) The Grandview Highway quickly becomes a typical Vancouver avenue, 12th Avenue. Continue west along 12th Avenue for about 20-25 minutes. You will pass the Vancouver City Hall (at Cambie Street), and then the Vancouver General Hospital. Immediately following the VGH, turn left on to Oak Street, heading south. Continue south on Oak St. briefly, turning right on 16th Ave. Turn right on to Wolfe Ave. Wolfe Ave. turns into 16th Ave. again as you cross Granville Street. Continue west along 16th Ave. until you approach the University (15-20 min. drive). Turn right on to East Mall, and continue along East Mall to find parking (see the UBC map, below). From Downtown Vancouver From downtown, head south over any of the Burrard St., Granville St., or Cambie St. Bridges. Continue south along whichever street you've chosen until you intersect 16th Ave. Turn right on to 16th Ave, and proceed west until you approach the University. Turn right on to East Mall, and continue along East Mall to find parking (see the UBC map, below). Map of UBC Campus ![]() (click to enlarge) |
